Some simple measures for cyber safety

Cybersecurity is something that everyone, from big businesses to individuals simply using the internet, need to take seriously. To that end, DNN would like to assist by providing some of the best resources for implementing cybersecurity measures both at home and in your office.

Some simple measures:

  1. Keep your software up to date – Modern operating systems such as Windows 10 and MacOS will automatically check for and install updates. This is also true of mobile operating systems, including iOS and Android. Ensure that these settings are enabled and functional. In addition, be sure that any applications you maintain on your desktop computers and mobile devices are up to date with their latest versions. Updates typically include security patches that fix recognized vulnerabilities in the software.
  2. Stay vigilant for phishing attempts – Spammers and phishers have been a part of the internet since it became a mainstream aspect of culture in the mid-90s. While the content of scam emails have changed over the years, the overall methodology has remained consistent. Scammers will always attempt to bait you with appeals to something urgent. Check for suspicious attachments, odd email addresses and ask yourself if the email is one you expect to receive.
  3. Maintain good password etiquette – Many websites and services require use of strong passwords at this point, but it’s a good idea not just to maintain a strong password that includes a mix of upper-case, lower-case, numbers and special characters, but to change it on a regular basis. Check out our guide to good password etiquette.
  4. Make use of two-factor authentication – Enable two-factor authentication for those websites and services you use that offer it.
