Google gets Goggle (.com that is!)

It’s a typo that most of us have made at least once, but Domain Name Wire is reporting that Google’s latest acquisition will ensure that all the mistaken traffic arrives at the right spot. Yes, Google has obtained the very close domain Goggle.com after it was moved from Uniregistry to Google’s own MarkMonitor brand. In addition to obtaining the .com version of Google, they also acquired Goggle.org and Goggle.net.

These domains were previously maintained by Goggle.com Inc, against whom Google had filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum to secure the domain names, a complaint that was dismissed as a reverse domain hijacking attempt. Whether Google purchased the domains from Goggle.com Inc is unclear, but the trio of Goggle .com, Goggle. net, and Goggle .org were part of the 2022 Right of the Dot auction as a package deal and sold for $270,000 on the stipulation that another party could obtain it if it matched the price.

Google now adds these domains to many others it maintains for brand protection purposes.
